We are looking for a Family Violence Liaison/Kaimahi to join our dedicated team.

The employee is required to have a good knowledge and understanding of family violence, risk assessment, safety planning and good coordinating and networking skills to be able to work in the community with stakeholders, police and whanau impacted by family violence. 

With your expert skills in working in the family violence sector your key responsibilities include:

  • Direct liaison with whanau experiencing family violence with a focus on risk assessment and safety planning to create networks of support for whanau safety and wellbeing.
  • To liaise and network with government and  non-government organisations, community stakeholders, Police and family violence service providers of the FVIARs/SAM table. 
  • Commitment to developing and maintaining networks in the community to support a collective approach and ensure appropriate services are provided within the professional standards and ethics as required.
  • Respond to referrals in a timely manner, working with whanau onsite and out in the community and follow standard process and procedures identifying whanau needs using a strength-based, outcome focused approach.
  • Keeping accurate client records to provide reports or material in a professional and timely manner. 
  • Intervention strategies are relevant to the client’s needs and their safety, with referrals to community agencies as appropriate.
  • To network with appropriate community groups and organisations with the purpose of developing a strong network of support for whanau needs, raising awareness and encouraging early intervention and prevention of family violence.
  • Able to maintain professional boundaries, with respect for client confidentiality and work towards restoring client safety and dignity always.
  • To participate and contribute to the development of Central Connect Whare Manaaki initiatives and strategic plan of whanau safety and wellbeing.

Required Skills

  • Have knowledge and understanding of the dynamics, complexities of how family violence impacts family/whanau.
  • Have experience working in the family violence sector (ideally with minimum 2 years work experience)
  • Have excellent interpersonal relationship skills.
  • Good communication, coordinating and networking skills to work with a variety of people including the Police, FVIARs network, community stakeholders and whanau. 
  • Have an understanding and appreciation of teamwork and team dynamics with good communication skills.
  • Have proficient computer skills including using outlook, excel and client management systems and data entry.
  • Work in a culturally inclusive way, with knowledge of tikanga Maori and demonstrate commitment to Te Tiriti O Waitangi.
  • Able to work independently with proven ability to work with high degree of responsibility and self-management.
  • Keeping appropriate client records and provide any written reports or material in a professional and timely manner. 
  • Hold a current NZ driver’s license
